How to build a study plan Agent from your syllabus

Before you begin

Use the built-in Study Plan Generator template. It collects exam dates, topic confidence levels, and weekly availability, then builds a study schedule incorporating spaced practice, active recall, interleaving, and buffer time.

Know its scope before you start. Content tutoring, assignment work, and essay drafting sit outside what it does. What it does do is organize study time around your assessment dates and available hours.

What to gather

  • Course schedule. Your syllabus or topic schedule with key assessment dates.
  • Available time. Realistic estimates of weekday and weekend study hours.
  • Policy check. Confirmation that uploading syllabus schedules complies with campus file policies.

If your campus provides a shared course Agent, ask your instructor whether a study planner is already configured. Chat interactions draw from your Organization’s Credit pool.

Steps

  1. Open the planner. In Agents, select Template Catalog and choose Study Plan Generator, or open your campus study planner.
  2. Answer the setup prompts about exam dates, difficult topics, weekly study hours, and competing deadlines.
  3. Supply the schedule. Upload or paste the schedule section of your syllabus, removing any personal grades or private instructor feedback.
  4. Work coarse to fine. Request a high-level weekly plan first, then ask for detailed daily blocks for the final seven to ten days before exams.
  5. Insist on retrieval practice and buffer time for unexpected delays in every version of the plan.
  6. Steer it back to the schedule if it starts summarizing chapter content instead of organizing schedule blocks.
  7. Move the plan into your calendar or planner app. Chat history keeps the record, and your calendar is what reminds you on the day.
  8. Check back in after three days, report what you completed, and request adjustments for the remaining topics.

Check your result

  • Every key course topic appears at least once before exam dates.
  • Difficult topics are scheduled early in the review cycle rather than right before the test.
  • Study blocks list specific tasks, such as “Tuesday 3:00 to 3:50 pm, chapter 4 retrieval practice”, rather than broad study goals.
  • The schedule accounts for meals, sleep, and non-academic commitments.
  • The plan is schedule guidance from end to end, with no generated assignment answers.

Troubleshooting

  • The schedule is unrealistic. Reduce your reported weekly study hours and prioritize topics by point values and difficulty.
  • The plan leans on passive rereading. Instruct the Agent to require active recall checkpoints in every study block.
  • The Agent starts explaining concepts. Remind it to focus on schedule organization rather than content tutoring.
  • Credit pool usage is higher than expected. Shorten Chat sessions, request targeted adjustments to the existing plan instead of a full regeneration, and talk to your campus administrators about credit allocations.

Next steps

Pair your study schedule with a subject-specific Learning Assistant, or with Exam Prep Assistant: Math & Logic in quantitative courses, to review content. Read How to use Alkimi for studying without crossing academic integrity lines before using any Agent alongside coursework.
