Build an Agent
Create an Agent
Platform users can create an Agent using four distinct methods:
- Blank. Start from an empty configuration.
- Template Catalog. Adopt a pre-built configuration and adapt it.
- JSON import. Load an exported configuration file.
- AI Agent Builder. Generate an initial design from a written description.
Ground it in institutional material
Knowledge collections structure uploaded files, text, websites, and cloud storage folders for RAG retrieval. Connect one when your agent has to answer from policy manuals, academic catalogs, or department documentation rather than from general model knowledge.
Improve an existing Agent
To refine an active agent, use Agent Builder to propose conversational adjustments for review. For direct, structured prompt editing, open Instructions Studio to modify system rules, output formatting, and tool parameters.
Operate responsibly
Set team practices
Before granting broad user access, review what the Agent can reach: its Knowledge collection scope, its instructions, and who the audience is. Review Organization policies before enabling public agent access or external sharing, and configure PII warn, redact, or block rules, which support up to 50 custom regex patterns. Add a Safeguard where it addresses a risk specific to that Agent, and see What safeguards do and do not do for where the prompt-level boundary ends.
Understand usage
Resource consumption, credit costs, and Credit pool allocations across your Organization are covered in Account and billing help: private support and public basics.
